Automation Engineering Support Technician - 1st Shift (6am - 2pm) Overview US Conec is seeking a hands-on Automation Engineering Support Technician to provide technical support to the Automation Engineering team by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated manufacturing equipment used in the production of precision fiber optic connectivity products. This role supports production by ensuring automation systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while assisting with equipment installations, continuous improvement initiatives, and process optimization.
The position works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, and outside vendors to maximize equipment performance and manufacturing efficiency.
Responsibilities
Support the installation, startup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated manufacturing equipment, including robotics, PLC-controlled systems, HMIs, servo systems, vision inspection equipment, conveyors, and pneumatic devices and electromechanical systems. Respond to production equipment issues by diagnosing root causes and performing and/or coordinating repairs to minimize downtime. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and extend equipment life.
Assist Automation Engineers with equipment performance, production trials, process improvements, and implementation of new automation technologies. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Monitor automated manufacturing processes and make recommendations for improvements to increase repeatability, throughput, and product quality.
Assist in modifying automation programs, machine parameters, and control systems under the direction of Automation Engineering. Maintain accurate equipment documentation, including preventive maintenance and calibration records, troubleshooting logs, spare parts information, and equipment change documentation. Support the development and maintenance of work instructions, preventive maintenance and calibration procedures, and operator training materials.
Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support new product introductions. Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and outside service providers to support repairs, upgrades, and installation projects.
Requirements
, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and applicable regulatory standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. Must Haves Two or more years of experience supporting automated assembly equipment in a production environment.
Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical equipment. Familiarity with industrial robotics, PLCs, HMIs, servo motion systems, sensors, and machine vision systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Working knowledge of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and machine safety principles.
