Sytac - Openings — Utrecht, Utrecht
At Sytac , we build high-performing engineering teams for leading organizations. We combine a pragmatic, people-first culture with technical craftsmanship, giving engineers autonomy in real production environments. For one of our key clients in the Netherlands, we are looking for a Data Scientist – GraphRAG who wants to be at the forefront of AI transformation in one of Europe's largest financial institutions.
You'll join a specialized team leveraging graph technology to enhance GenAI capabilities bank-wide — including critical social impact initiatives such as the fight against financial crime. You'll explore, validate, and develop how GraphRAG can ground Large Language Models with structured knowledge — and turn those experiments into production-ready solutions that scale across the organisation.
What You'Ll Do
Build responsible and cost-effective GraphRAG solutions on large, unstructured datasets — working with transaction data from over 8 million customers. Analyse and optimise critical code to improve performance and scalability across the data platform. Turn explorational notebooks into a maintainable, testable, and production-ready codebase.
Create reusable building blocks that can be adopted across the bank — standardised, scalable, and built to last. Take the lead in sharing best practices, mentoring teammates, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence. Experiment with graph-based retrieval strategies and integrate them within the Data & Analytics landscape.
Tackle complex technical challenges and elevate the skills of those around you.
What We'Re Looking For
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, IT, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience as a Data Scientist with a strong focus on software engineering — not just modelling. Strong Python expertise and solid object-oriented programming and software engineering skills — this is non-negotiable.
Proficient with Git, Databricks, PySpark, and cloud platforms (Azure). A passion for building clean, well-structured, maintainable, and testable solutions that are built for scale and reuse. Solid understanding of statistical modelling and machine learning.
Curious, proactive, collaborative, and open to learning — you elevate the team around you. Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written. Based in the Netherlands.
Nice To Have
Experience with Knowledge Graphs, GraphRAG, Semantics, and Ontologies — a significant plus. Experience in model deployment, performance tuning, and monitoring via MLOps/DevOps practices. Background working in regulated or financial services environments at scale.
