The role As a Senior Engineering Technician, you’ll play a pivotal role in building and scaling the engineering operations that enable Wayve’s autonomous vehicle platform. You’ll lead a small team of Engineering Technicians while remaining deeply hands-on, partnering closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Systems and Software Engineers to rapidly prototype, integrate, troubleshoot and validate cutting-edge hardware. This is an opportunity to bring proven technician expertise into a fast-paced robotics environment, establishing best practices while helping the team move quickly without compromising quality.
Key Responsibilities
: Lead, mentor and develop a team of Engineering Technicians. Own day-to-day lab operations, hardware bring-up, integration and vehicle support activities. Execute and oversee electrical, mechanical and system-level builds, modifications and repairs.
Partner with engineering teams to diagnose complex hardware and integration issues across development programs. Develop and improve technician workflows, lab processes and documentation to increase efficiency and quality. Support prototype builds, validation activities and engineering change implementation.
Drive a culture of safety, craftsmanship and continuous improvement within the technician team. About you In order to set you up for success as a Senior Engineering Technician at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience. Essential 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician or Engineering Technician Lead supporting complex hardware products.
Previous experience leading or mentoring technicians while remaining an active technical contributor. Strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical assembly, integration, debugging and rework. Proven ability to troubleshoot multidisciplinary hardware issues independently in fast-paced development environments.
Experience supporting prototype and low-volume hardware builds through rapid design iterations. Comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly documentation. Experience working closely with Electrical, Mechanical and Systems Engineering teams to resolve integration challenges.
A strong understanding of lab equipment, test instrumentation and safe working practices. Demonstrated ability to establish technician best practices, improve workflows and raise execution quality. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks across multiple engineering programs.
Strong communication skills and the confidence to collaborate across engineering disciplines. Desirable Experience supporting autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, automotive or other complex electromechanical systems. Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems, wire harness fabrication and integration.
Experience managing engineering labs, inventory and calibration processes. Experience implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
