Good practical learning starts with a workshop that is ready. Tools need to be safe. Materials need to be prepared.

Equipment needs to be in the right place. Students need clear standards, and lecturers need reliable technical support so sessions run smoothly. As our Painting and Decorating Technician, you’ll help make that happen.

You’ll support practical learning across Painting and Decorating, Multi-Skills and wider Construction provision. You’ll prepare resources, maintain tools and equipment, support workshop activity and help create safe, organised environments where students can develop real trade skills. This role is ideal for someone with painting and decorating, multi-skills or wider construction experience who enjoys practical work and wants to support the next generation of learners.

You do not need to be a lecturer. You do need to understand how a good workshop should run, take health and safety seriously and be confident helping students work safely and professionally. Prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical sessions.

Support Painting and Decorating, Multi-Skills and wider Construction workshop activity. Help maintain safe, clean and organised workshop spaces. Demonstrate safe use of tools, machinery and equipment where appropriate.

Support students during practical activity under the direction of teaching staff. Monitor tools, equipment, materials and stock levels. Carry out routine workshop checks and support risk-assessment activity.

Report faults, missing equipment or safety concerns promptly. Promote safe working habits and professional standards. Support Open Evenings, taster sessions and other Construction events where required.

A relevant qualification in Painting and Decorating, Multi-Skills or a related construction trade, ideally at Level 2 or above. Industry experience in painting and decorating, multi-skills or a related construction environment. Confidence using and maintaining hand tools, machinery and workshop equipment.

Good knowledge of health and safety in a construction workshop setting. Strong organisation and the ability to manage materials, equipment and workshop spaces. A supportive approach with students and colleagues.

Experience supporting learners, apprentices or less-experienced colleagues would be helpful. A proactive approach to keeping practical spaces safe, prepared and well run. What you’re like Practical.
