The position We are seeking an experienced NYS Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to provide technical leadership and operational oversight for our land surveying practice. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of survey quality, regulatory compliance, project delivery, and technical excellence while supporting the continued growth of the practice.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished survey professional who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership and process improvement experience. This individual will assist in acquiring staff to build a department, mentor survey staff, strengthen QA/QC processes, develop standardized workflows, and help drive operational performance across multiple projects and offices. Provide technical oversight and leadership for land surveying projects from proposal through final deliverables.
Review plats, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, construction surveys, and other survey products to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards. Lead quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts by reviewing project deliverables, identifying deficiencies, and driving corrective actions through completion. Develop, implement, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical standards, and best practices.
Establish and maintain performance metrics that improve project consistency, reduce delivery risk, and protect project profitability. Serve as the Professional Land Surveyor of record by signing and sealing survey documents as required. Mentor, coach, and develop survey personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to ensure successful project execution. Support business development efforts through client engagement, technical consultation, and proposal support. Assist with strategic planning for the surveying practice, including staffing, resource planning, and operational improvements.
Maintain compliance with state surveying regulations, professional standards, and company policies. Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required; New York licensure is required; Multistate preferred.
Responsibilities
Demonstrated experience leading survey teams or multi-office survey operations. Strong knowledge of boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, subdivision, and utility surveys. Experience developing QA/QC programs, technical standards, and operational processes.
Proven ability to mentor technical staff and build high-performing teams. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Strong understanding of project delivery, risk management, and client service.
