Lecturer Plumbing and Gas

Full-time - Permanent 37 Hours a Week You know what good plumbing and gas work looks like. Now help apprentices build the skill, confidence and standards to do it well. Plumbing and gas are changing.

Learners still need strong practical skills, safe working habits and a clear understanding of installation, maintenance and fault-finding. But they also need to understand where the industry is heading, including low-carbon heating, sustainability and new technologies. As our Plumbing and Gas Lecturer, you’ll help apprentices build that foundation.

You’ll teach Plumbing and Gas apprenticeship programmes, mainly up to Level 3, bringing your industry knowledge into the classroom and workshop. You’ll help learners understand the standards expected by employers, the importance of safe and compliant work, and the professional behaviours that matter on site and with customers. This role is for someone with strong occupational competence and current Gas Safe registration.

You may already be an experienced lecturer, or you may be an industry professional who has trained, supervised or supported others and is ready to move into teaching. What matters is that you can explain the trade clearly, set high standards and help apprentices develop the skills they need for work, progression and the future of the industry. Teach Plumbing and Gas apprenticeship programmes, mainly up to Level 3.

Plan and deliver practical and theory-based learning that reflects current industry practice. Help apprentices develop technical skills, professional behaviours and safe working habits. Use your industry experience to make learning relevant, current and connected to employer expectations.

Assess learner progress and provide clear feedback that supports achievement. Maintain accurate learner records, assessment information and tracking documentation. Work with colleagues and employers to support high-quality apprenticeship delivery.

Contribute to a safe, inclusive and well-organised learning environment. Support open events, recruitment activity and employer engagement where required. Bring awareness of sustainability, low-carbon heating and future industry developments into learning.

Occupational competence in Plumbing and Gas to Level 3 or equivalent. Current Gas Safe registration. Substantial industry experience in plumbing and gas installation, maintenance or related work.

Experience training, mentoring or supporting apprentices, learners or colleagues.

Requirements

Level 2 English and maths. A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one. Strong organisation and accurate record keeping.

Experience in air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps or low-carbon heating technologies would be a real advantage. What you’re like Industry credible. You understand plumbing and gas work and bring real experience into teaching.

You can work across college sites and employer locations where required. You’re flexible and happy to support college activity when needed.
