This role supports the technical backbone of the project team, bringing the field's perspective to the design team, leveraging their own technical expertise to support and drive the design process, and closing the loop by walking the job site with the field to make sure what was designed actually gets built. This role connects design to constructability, improving outcomes for both teams. The Technical Engineer – Mechanical specializes in the full scope of mechanical systems, bringing an understanding from process piping and equipment to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection to bear across every phase of project delivery.

This means reviewing design packages for compliance and constructability, managing RFIs and submittals with technical precision, and supporting or executing design-build scopes in coordination with engineering subconsultants. Responsibilities

Proactively identifies design gaps, cross-discipline conflicts, and constructability issues before they reach the field, identifying solutions in addition to documenting challenges. Serves as the primary engineering resource for assigned projects, bridging the gap between the project design team and field operations throughout all phases of delivery. Reviews mechanical design documents at each milestone for code compliance, completeness, internal consistency, and constructability; maintains structured design review logs and tracks comments to resolution.

Supports and drives the RFI and submittal processes to align with field construction needs, actively managing design team review cycles to ensure timely turnaround; includes review of shop drawings, product data, and equipment submittals for conformance with contract documents and applicable standards.

Requirements

and applicable codes Partners directly with field superintendents and trade partners to resolve technical issues in real time, providing engineering judgment on field conditions, design deviations, and installation sequencing; supports the commissioning authority through system startup and closeout. Maintains structured technical records in alignment with enterprise documentation standards Supports and delivers internal technical training and contributes to the development of enterprise engineering standards.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design or construction. Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes and industry standards as they relate to large-scale, industrial, and mission-critical construction. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate mechanical engineering deliverables to identify errors, omissions, and cross-discipline coordination issues.

Familiarity with RFI and submittal review workflows on construction projects.
