Senior Software Engineer, Frontend (React-Native)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend with strong expertise in React Native to provide technical leadership in building our UX Toolkit (Web/Native) at Marqeta. This is a newly formed area of focus, and we need a technical leader with deep experience in building cross-platform mobile and web applications from the ground up. We work Flexible First .

This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, Canada preferably you residing in either Greater Toronto Area or Metro Vancouver. We’d love for you to join us! This position is for an existing vacancy.

The Impact You'll Have Collaborate with product and design teams to develop innovative cardholder experiences across web and mobile platforms. Lead the development of React Native-based SDKs and applications, ensuring high performance and seamless integration across platforms. Architect and implement reusable React Native components that align with modern design patterns and best practices.

Optimize performance for mobile applications, leveraging techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, and efficient rendering strategies. Work hands-on with React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS to build and maintain scalable front-end solutions. Define and contribute to technical roadmaps, design documents, and system architecture to ensure high-quality UI experiences.

Participate in design discussions, advise stakeholders, and establish best practices for mobile and web application development. Advocate for and implement modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance monitoring.

Who You Are

5+ years of experience in web and mobile application development with a focus on React Native. Strong proficiency in React Native for building mobile applications, including experience with React Navigation, Expo, and native module development (Swift/Kotlin/Objective-C/Java). Experience integrating React Native applications with native iOS and Android components, bridging gaps where necessary.

js, Redux, Context API, or similar state management frameworks. Experience working with design systems and component-based architecture to ensure UI consistency and scalability. Strong knowledge of mobile performance optimization techniques, including profiling, memory management, and UI rendering optimizations.

Experience integrating RESTful APIs and GraphQL into mobile and web applications. Familiarity with mobile authentication techniques, including OAuth, biometric authentication, and secure session management. Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile development, such as Fastlane, Bitrise, or App Center.

Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows, including feature branching and pull request reviews. Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading mobile development initiatives. Solid problem-solving skills, debugging expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot cross-platform performance issues.

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and backend engineers. Nice to haves Experience with Swift and/or Kotlin for deeper native integrations in React Native apps.
