About The Role
The Designer – Men’s Apparel is a critical member of the design team, responsible for developing innovative products and driving the creative process from concept through production. This role requires strong design skills, a keen understanding of market trends, and the ability to manage multiple projects while collaborating cross-functionally. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in men’s apparel and a passion for delivering compelling, market-right product.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development Execution Interpret seasonal direction and creative briefs from senior designers and leadership. Create CAD sketches, construction details, and print recolors with a high level of proficiency. Develop silhouettes, prints, fabrications, and color palettes for assigned categories.
Independently own projects from concept to completion, including design handoffs and approvals. Lead fittings, assess garment construction, and provide clear feedback. Prepare tech packs for costing and set up production BOMs for fabric, trim, and packaging.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with merchandising, product development, technical design, licensing, and sales teams to align creative direction with business objectives. Collaborate with patternmakers and sewers to execute design intent and ensure quality standards. Support sourcing by creating development and sourcing sheets, concept approvals, and fabric/trim boards.
Oversee junior designers’ work to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion. Process Systems Management Maintain PLM systems with up-to-date tracking, approvals, and style information. Organize and prepare sample racks, shipments to buyers, and market samples.
Assist in preparing trend presentations, market analysis reports, and seasonal assortments. Market Research Trend Analysis Conduct market and trend research to identify new opportunities. Provide sales teams with market intelligence and competitive insights.
Contribute to conceptual presentations and seasonal strategy planning. General Support Administration Assist with organizing design files, documents, and in-house sample cut tickets. Coordinate buyer and licensor shipments and approvals.
Prepare materials for internal and external presentations.
Qualifications
Experience 6+ years of experience in apparel design, preferably in men’s fashion. Experience designing for GAP, Eddie Bauer, or similar brands. Club packaging experience preferred.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field strongly preferred. Skills Competencies Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and PLM systems. Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and technical specifications.
Confidently assess and communicate color and fabric approvals. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Effective mentorship and leadership skills to guide junior designers.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Expectations Ability to learn quickly, take direction, and display a positive, respectful attitude.
