Beautiful Destinations — Berlin, Berlin
BEAT81 is a tech-enabled fitness company, and our engineering team is at the centre of everything that makes a class happen. Our systems power every step of the experience when a member books, checks in, clips into a bike, or pushes through a 45-minute workout. We build the systems that power the workout floor, the coach's tools, the member app, and the operational infrastructure that keeps 40+ studios running.
It's a product unlike most engineers have worked on, and that's exactly the point. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our product engineering team in Berlin. The Role You'll work across the full stack of a genuinely complex, physical-digital product.
That means backend services, frontend interfaces, mobile experiences, database design, operational tooling, and occasionally hardware. We're a small, high-ownership team, and senior means senior: you'll take real technical responsibility for meaningful parts of the product, make decisions, and ship things that members and coaches interact with every day. We work primarily in Elixir and LiveView for our in-studio experiences, with TypeScript powering our backend services and React Native for mobile.
But we're honest about what actually matters at this level: strong generalist instincts, sharp engineering judgement, and the ability to pick up new tools and contexts quickly. Engineers who lean heavily on AI-assisted development will feel at home here. We've embraced it fully, and we hold ourselves to a high bar for the quality and ownership of everything we ship, AI-assisted or not.
What You'Ll Do
Own and deliver end-to-end solutions to complex, ambiguous problems across the product from scoping through to production Make sound architectural decisions independently, and advocate for them clearly with your team and stakeholders Contribute to frontend, backend, infrastructure, and wherever else the work takes you without needing a specialist for every context Mentor and actively grow the engineers around you, raising the technical capability of the team as a whole Bring technical insight early into product discovery, and collaborate closely with Product and Design to shape what gets built Champion quality, observability, and production reliability as non-negotiables Help evolve our engineering practices and tooling, and drive improvements that make the whole team faster and better
What We'Re Looking For
A strong generalist with proven experience across the full stack — you're comfortable in backend, frontend, databases, and ops, and you don't wait for someone else to handle the unfamiliar parts Sharp engineering judgement: you make good decisions under ambiguity, validate them with data, and communicate trade-offs clearly A genuine product engineering mindset — you think about outcomes, not just outputs, and you care about the members and coaches using what you build Experience working in complex, real-world systems where reliability and performance actually matter Comfort with AI-assisted development, and the discipline to own everything you ship with it Someone who raises the bar around them through code quality, documentation, mentorship, and how you show up in a team Experience with Elixir, LiveView, or React Native is a plus, but not a requirement. We care more about how you think and learn than which languages are on your CV. Why BEAT81 Engineering Most engineers spend their careers building screens.
We build experiences that play out in a physical room, on real bikes, with a coach and up to 80 members depending on everything working. The domain is genuinely unusual, the ownership is real, and the team moves fast. Part of that means getting out of the office.
We regularly spend time on-site in our studios testing new features in the wild, helping set up new tech, and getting direct feedback from the members and coaches using what we build.
