The Senior Electrical Engineer independently performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard electrical design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project.
This person must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. This position requires the colleague to set assignments that have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. This position normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and typically 10+ years’ related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree in engineering) related to electrical engineering systems in the Built Environment.
This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated electrical engineering and design equipment. An incumbent in this position should be in possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification and be working toward Professional Engineering (PE) Registration. PE registration would be attained within the first 2 years of attaining this position level.

Collaborates with more experienced engineering colleagues to prepare basic plan details and outlines, cost estimates, and perform calculations in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of electrical equipment, components, or systems. Lays out full plan designs, plan details and outlines, identifies quantities of materials, cost estimates, and performs calculations for a detailed segment of a project.
Prepares technical specifications for review and approval. Evaluates vendors’ bids and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications. Reviews and approves electrical design drawings for assigned segment of project.
Assists with development of design guides, guide specifications, and design control procedures when directed by Practice Technical Leader.
