Location: Albany, New York The Senior Accountant will serve as a key financial partner to project and business unit leadership, providing financial oversight, project performance analysis, forecasting, and accounting support throughout the project lifecycle. This individual will work closely with Finance, Operations, Project Managers, and Business Unit leadership to ensure accurate project reporting, contract compliance, revenue recognition, and financial accountability across the organization.
Manage the financial administration of assigned projects from project setup through project closeout. Monitor project budgets, costs, labor utilization, profitability, and revenue performance to ensure financial objectives are achieved. Prepare and review client invoices in accordance with contract terms and company policies.
Perform project revenue recognition and work-in-progress (WIP) analysis in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
Requirements
Partner closely with Project Managers, Operations leadership, and Business Unit leaders to provide financial guidance and project performance insights. Support project forecasting, backlog analysis, budgeting, and financial planning activities. Participate in project review meetings and provide recommendations related to project profitability, financial risks, and performance improvement opportunities.
Monitor project funding, contract modifications, billing status, and accounts receivable collections. Prepare project financial reports, analyses, and dashboards for management review. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including project-related journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and system efficiencies. Maintain the integrity of project financial data within Deltek Vantagepoint (VP) and related financial systems. Collaborate with Finance leadership on initiatives that support organizational growth and scalability.
Assist in mentoring and developing future project accounting staff as the accounting organization expands. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Minimum of 5 years of project accounting, job cost accounting, or related accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of project accounting principles, job cost accounting, revenue recognition, project forecasting, and contract compliance. Experience supporting project-based organizations in engineering, consulting, construction, government contracting, or professional services environments preferred. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively partner with operational and financial leadership.
