We want to make sure Wales has the energy it needs in a Net Zero world. There’s endless potential for renewable energy in Wales – particularly from the wind that blows across our hills and mountains. But the green energy is stuck in the windy areas of Wales, and we need to get it to the homes, hospitals, schools, businesses, and communities that need it.

To respond to this challenge and meet Welsh Government’s target for 100% renewable electricity in Wales by 2035, we’re developing a stronger, more resilient renewable electricity network that is greatly needed in Wales – distributing clean, green energy. THE ROLE SALARY: Starting from £75,000 per annum (skills and experience dependent) REPORTS TO: Head of Engineering LOCATION: Cardiff, Wales (with flexible working options) As the Senior substation Engineer you will manage all aspects of substation design for the engineering team for Green Gen Cymru’s (GGC) network, engaging and supporting a multidisciplinary engineering team as they work with consultants, contractors, customers and other electricity network owners.

You will support the GGC project development and project delivery team in all aspects of substation design and delivery to enable design and construction of the Green Gen Cymru network. The Senior Substation Engineer will be discipline lead for substation engineering and ensure the appropriate distribution voltage level standards are applied to the network design to ensure robust operation. The Senior Substation Engineer will report to the Head of Engineering.

This role has a key co-ordination component with other engineering disciplines and other departments within Green Gen Cymru.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the ongoing substation engineering design engagement from connection offer to energisation being the key engineering department contact for any substation engineering design matters for Green Gen Cymru’s network • Manage substation engineering changes through design or compliance • You will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the substation design engaging with other engineering disciplines where required • Ensure any substation design work takes account of CDM and this is considered throughout the design and construction stages.
