Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian.
They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side.

Requirements

This position is located organizationally in Smithsonian Event Technologies (SET), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Under Secretary for Finance and Administration, Smithsonian Institution (SI).
SI is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge. SI’s information technology (IT) needs are led and provided by OCIO. , events, exhibitions, conferences).
SET broadens SI’s reach through the use of audiovisual and telecommunications technologies such as: - sound reinforcement systems - recording devices - computers - media editing software - broadcast equipment - data projector - stage lighting This position provides complete audiovisual technical support for events by operating equipment, preparing and managing gear, and executing production tasks to ensure reliable, high quality audiovisual event services. Events & Media Production Set up, operate, and break down AV equipment (audio, video, lighting, projection, broadcast, virtual event tools). Ensure high‑quality sound and visuals for events across Smithsonian venues.
Troubleshoot technical issues and support event personnel. Review equipment needs and adapt to last‑minute changes. Provide informal guidance to junior operators.
