The Vehicle Controls Software Engineer plays an integral role in both the design and testing phase of development and regularly travels to Xos manufacturing facilities and customer sites to support vehicle commissioning, system testing, and on-site troubleshooting.

Design, implement, and integrate embedded control algorithms for electric powertrain and vehicle systems using model-based development tools (MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow). Develop and execute system-level tests on HIL benches, simulators, and actual vehicles to validate control logic, and software performance.

Support vehicle commissioning, end-of-line testing, and troubleshooting activities at Xos manufacturing facilities and customer locations, including diagnostics and root cause analysis.

Review and assess the impact of software changes, participating in design and requirement reviews to ensure system-level consistency and reliability.

What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field. 2+ years of experience developing and validating vehicle-level control systems. Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for real-time embedded control design.

Familiarity with C/C++ programming and automotive communication protocols (CAN,LIN, J1939) Hands-on experience with HIL systems, diagnostic tools (ETAS INCA, Vector CANalyzer), and vehicle testing. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset. Experience in fast-paced environments, with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.

A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for this position, as driving is an essential function of the role. Ability to travel as required to support vehicle commissioning and field activities; position requires up to 60% travel Preferred Experience in electric vehicle systems and architecture.
